We attempted to charm earthworms out of the soil. We tried twanging with a pitchfork, dancing and stamping to encourage the worms out via vibrations but we didn't manage to charm any of them although Noah found one but we think he dug his worm out which doesn't exactly qualify as charming a worm!
We picked the last of our calendulas.
And made calendula oil.
We picked a handful of calendula petals. Placed them in a sealable glass jar with olive oil. Sealed the jar and left on the windowsill to sit in the sun for several days. Then strained and bottled again.
We collected so many horse chestnuts (conkers) a few weeks back. With some of them we made conkerwebs. Something we love to do every autumn.
And some of them were used to make three very fine conker dragons based on the instructions found in All Year Round. Here's two of them basking in the sun! We made one a few years ago and I've been meaning to make more ever since. I don't know where that first dragon ended up! They are great fun!
This is the boys' clan of Yap-Yaps. Each time we go to the woods and they discover another Yap-Yap, they hurl it home with them. Some of them are really heavy! They are bits of wood left from recent tree-felling and the boys call them Yap-Yap because each piece a big open mouth doing lots of talking. The games they play with this merry bunch.
