Snakes, winter, and sick...

Sol caught a large skaapstekker snake in our garden.  These snakes can give quite a nasty bite so we took him to our friend the snake expert to set free in the wild.

It is winter in the southern hemisphere and cold enough to light the fire and gather around for together time.
The rest of June had us all down with colds that really hit us hard so nothing more from June!

Winter lichen

I'm appreciating the vivid colours and textures of the various lichen on the bare winter bushes, trees and rocks.

Still Winter..

Well, that Brother North Wind is still out playing with King Winter. It is cold and grey and we've been having quite a few dustings of snow.

I love the way the snow decorates the trees in the woods - a dusting on the side the snow fell. It looks beautiful. This picture doesn't show that beauty clearly, but I have put it here to remind myself of the beauty.

Here, on this farm something very unique is grown. Fields of cocoa. Leo says that these rich brown bare fields are fields of cocoa. He quite likes the look of snow dustings on his cocoa fields too!

Here is King Winter still about enjoying himself. We have a few snowdrops and root babes and a sheep mama and her lamb to try and give him the hint to make way for Spring.

Wintry walks this week

Lots of walking and exploring.

Bare trees and green moss.

Slate grey stone walls covered with moss divide up the fields.

Happy free nature boy.

Snowmen!

So much snow, so much fun building snowmen!

These are Sol's snow guards. Beware anyone approaching!

A big family effort to make this one.

Frost pictures

Jack Frost was very creative last night. We awoke this morning to the most beautiful frost paintings on all our windows.

Beautiful imaginings of icy fires, flowers, flames, dragons, forests, fairies....

Snow and sunset

Yet more snow!  The barn next to our house this morning.

The boys looked just like little dung beetles rolling these snow balls.  They're attempting to build themselves a snowhouse.  Hard work!

Leo responding to a robin singing a sweet song from the branches above, with 'Come and play with me'.

Our six foot snowman wearing 'Giraffe with a scarf's' scarf!

And to end another glorious day, a beautiful sunset.  This has to be the best winter ever!

More snow!

What joy to have more snow come our way.  Today has been a lovely day spent in snow love!

Come little snowflakes, dance through the air,

Making the world so pure and fair,

Light and bright, sparkling white,

Soft as the wings of the dove in flight.

Making snow angels.

And being fully present in the moment...

Ice

The joys of icy wintry days.

Sheets of ice to gaze through. Icy puddles to crunch through.

Towers of ice to create.

Snails in ice!

Beautiful leaves dusted with ice and frozen in ice.
