Colours of the week candles

When we rolled candles at Candlemas, we rolled coloured beeswax sheets this year for an idea I had in mind. I found a fallen branch and drilled seven holes to hold the candles. We added the candles based on the Waldorf colours of the day.  This is what I go with:

Monday, moon, violet, rice
Tuesday, mars, red, barley
Wednesday, mercury, yellow, millet
Thursday, jupiter, orange, rye
Friday, venus, green, oats
Saturday, saturn, blue, corn
Sunday, sun, white, wheat
I have placed our candle holder in the centre of our dining room table and we light the appropriate candle each day for blessings.  It is a great way to help the littler ones learn the days of the week, and we try to eat a food of the same colour as the day we are on each day.

We also added our festival or month gnome beside it.  Since Valentine's day has just passed we have had our Valentine gnome standing next to the candles and I also had the idea of making little weathermen based on the snowman I knitted when we had snow.  I am in the process of knitting a blue snowman shaped weatherman for rainy days, a grey man for overcast days, a red man for festival and celebration days and a yellow man for sunny days.  We will change the weatherman each day, and the gnome each month.  I have knitted six of the monthly gnomes so far.
I have also found it really prompts us as a family to discuss the day/month/weather and it looks so cheerful too!
