It is the rainy season here in Zimbabwe. The Zambezi river and Lake Kariba area is a wildlife area.
Most of the big wild animals are not seen easily at this time of year as they generally have lots of food now with all the new greenery so they tend to stay deeper in the bush. We did see elephant and water buck. Hippos and crocodiles are always about and baboons and monkeys! And all the little creatures too!
Elephants in Chirundu happily doing their thing. People and animals coexist quite happily here. The elephants have gotten into the habit of rummaging through the rubbish.
Squirrel relaxing!
Baboons on the roadside.
Enormous millipedes. We call them chongololos.
And even yellow millipedes.
A pair of beautiful agamas. The male has the blue head.
A water monitor or legauun. Sol is determined to catch one of these! Not an easy task as they are very fast. He is equally determined!
And a beautiful blue tailed lizard.

How amazing to be around all these beautiful creatures, your little ones must be thrilled!

Dear Linda
DeleteWe are all thrilled. Wishing you a fantastic year, my friend.
Dear Kelly
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to see your blog updated with photos this morning. How wonderful it all looks. Mia, Tarka and Willow were amazed to see the animals you share the land with. Mia said that she absolutely wants to go to Zimbabwe one day!
Those millipedes are astonishingly huge! And the blue tailed lizard is so delicate and beautiful. Sol must be in his element with so many wonderful friends to discover.
I am so happy to read your blog again and follow your adventures!
Lots of love

Those millipedes really are astonishingly huge Gina! Sol is in his element and he does call all those creeping creatures his friends! Mia must come to Zimbabwe one day - all of you.
DeleteKelly,
ReplyDeleteOh! Your photos are amazing...I've shown them to everyone I know and we are astonished at EVERYTHING! Tell me about the elephants...do they honestly get into the rubbish (like silly little raccoons do here in the U.S.)?
I adore the monitor -- it is like seeing a dinosaur! I can't tell you how happy I am to be *visiting* with you and your amazing family again...
Much love to you always,
Jessica
Hi dear Jessica
DeleteLife here is amazing. We are full of gratitude to be back. It is tough but we knew it would be but so happy we made the decision to come back. Everything is amazing truly. The elephants. Yes truly - up there along the Zambezi River they truly dig about in the rubbish right near the locals - who just do their own thing. I will be back blogging regularly soon. Don't have regular internet at the moment but getting there. Come visit one day! Really. I mean it.
I do miss home, there is nothing like the African Wilderness... the boys, especially Sol must be loving it. There are no animals left in France, yet you still see hunters trying their luck out there... no wait I saw a bush pig. I wish I could put them all back. I am so happy your boys are in nature and sunshine.. after all they are African boys! Love yaxxx
ReplyDeleteThey are loving being African boys so much. feels right to be home and yes Sol especially just loves each day. Wish I could put all the animals back where you once were too. Love you.
