End of December and end of Christmas season - Epiphany

On Boxing Day we visited the crocodile farm.  Strange to think that there are crocodile farms but it seems people love to eat crocodile tails as a delicacy and crocodile skin is still well sought after.  Strange to see so many crocodiles in one place.
Handling a baby crocodile
Bigger sized crocodiles
We saw one crocodile much lighter than the rest.

The golden crocodile being guarded by the others!
We saw fantastic, huge red and blue dragonflies at the catch and release fishing ponds.

Noah is a natural fisherman.  Must be in his genes since my parents are always fishing!
Weaver bird nests - magnificent!
Hammerkop
And speaking of crocodiles. while we were at those catch and release pools I suddenly came across a crocodile lying basking in the sun right there on the path near all the people fishing - adults and children!  When we went quite near he darted into the water.  What if he had decided he wanted to do a bit of fishing himself with all of us about.  But, this is a wild area after all...gulp.

The full moon rising between two hills - what a magical sight.
Beautiful Lake Kariba
Kariba dam wall with a nyami nyami stone carving guarding over the lake.  The local people believe that the river god or river serpent, the nyami nyami, watches over the river.
A family of vervet monkeys frequently visit my parents' garden in Kariba and play in the trees!
Then it was back home to enjoy the New Year and Epiphany.

  1. I wouldlove to see weaver bird nests, they look magical.

Tarka loved seeing the crocodile pictures, amazing to get so close to them but not sure i'd have been very happy to meet one on the path either!

Love your ephiphany cake, we made one this year too, but cheated and made our kings out of paper on wooden sticks, to decorate the top of the cake!
