Plaster of Paris plaques

We've made quite a variety of plaster of paris plaques this week.  I've been getting around to doing this for a very long time.  The bag of plaster of paris has sat there for months on end, waiting.  So easy for children to do, which is just great, and so they can create whatever they want - so lots of open-ended creativity.

So this is what we made.
We painted acorns with gold and silver paint, left the acorns to dry and made the plaques the next day.

We also made these with all sorts of nature treasures.

Noah's mermaid sitting on a rock.

Leo's person.

Sol's angel.

And I wanted to stick in some of those beeswax dipped leaves.

What great fun this is.  I think we will have these all over the house - everywhere!

I have seen this craft in several places but for a really clear tutorial, please visit Stephanie's incredible blog, Ordinary Life Magic.  She has a tutorial there for seasonal plaques and a wealth of other activities.  And even if you don't feel like crafting, believe me, you will come away energised and inspired and will be back again.

  2. This is so clever! I love it :) I've never seen anything like it before. Gosh, you could make signs, plaques, Christmas tree ornaments, etc. The options would seemingly be endless with this clever little project. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Hello Dear Kelly~

These are just too lovely. What is it about handmade treasures around the home..I too am facinated by ice decorations some people make. Have you done those yet Sista Kelly? I cannot believe temperatures get so cold that you can make hanging ice decorations.

I hope you are all well...Our home is full of cousins and granny's and grandpa's...your email is developing line by line as I get my moments my friend...I have just done a swap unit study for someone in England about 'Jock of the bushveld' I would love to send that to your boys as soon as the Christmas celebrations are over..

Sending all my love to you all

  8. These are adorable Kelly. So much creativity coming from those little boys of yours. Sasha loves mermaids, he want to read the story all the time, it's very sad - I even cry in it. The little acorns are very pretty in their shiny coat against the white plaster. Lovely little plaques you've all made. Much lovexxx
