All the boys have had colds. Hopefully their last of the winter! We have been using plant power to chase away those unwanted guests.
Plant Power One: rosehips. Packed with Vitamin C. There are still rosehips about here so it's not too late to gather these. I have collected lots and lots and dehydrated a very big batch. Great added to stews, soups and to make tea. The tea is the easiest and quickest and so tasty. A handful of rosehips!

I have lots of teabag paper so we make up our little teabags and brew up a pot.

Also rosehip syrup. This is the recipe I use.

Plant Power 2 - elderberry - just a bit of elderberry syrup left from the batch I made earlier in the year.
Star Plant Power! Last, but definitely my favourite star power plant - nettles. Again, I dried a whole lot of leaves much earlier in the year and have stored this to make tea.
And just to add. We have so many sloes here. Big juicy sloes. The boys like the bitter taste and eat them off the bushes. I really wanted to find a use for them besides sloe gin. I made sloe and crabapple jelly. It does taste good. You can see we have been eating it! Anyone have any other good uses for sloes?

Next up - hawthornes! Still haven't made what I plan to so will let you know when I have!

how wonderful that you have such great natural remedies to help your family all feel better
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of growing my own tea. I didn't even know what sloes were, I had to google them. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh Kelly how lucky you have all those wonderful ingredients just outside your doorstep. I have to order most of them. Elderberry syrup doesn't last long in our home, the boys drink it like juice. I still have some dried waiting for when i need it. I have nettle powder in some capsules that I use, it's wonderful for sinus and hayfever to.. Sania loves to eat them, he doesn't even swallow them. Your jelly looks delicious, we make marmalade from bitter oranges.
ReplyDeleteYum! I hope you all get well soon! With all those remedies, I'm sure you will.
