Conker webs

Using some of the conkers we collected yesterday we weaved conker webs today.

What we did:

Choose a nice, big conker.

Using a skewer pierce eight holes evenly around the edges of the conker.

Stick cocktail sticks in these holes. Trim off the pointy edges.

Choose your yarn, tie it onto a cocktail stick and off you go.

Under the next stick, over the top and to the next one.  Continue like this round and round and change yarn colour if you want to as you go along.

If you don't have horse chestnuts in your area, or  something similar, you could always try weaving ojos de dios if you haven't come across this before.

  1. My mother makes chestnut stuffing every year for Thanksgiving--yummy!

And, aren't they just so pretty. I love your webs...neat!

  2. Are horse chestnuts the same as buckeyes? This is the second time I've come across the term conker for them... I never have before.
Neat idea for using them in a weaving!

  6. They are all so pretty! I have always wanted to do this, but not sure where we would get the conkers. Maybe we will just have to try it without them this year.

  7. They're really pretty! We do these every Autumn and then in Winter we use balls of white modelling wax instead of conkers and use white and silvery yarn to create Snowflakes.

  8. I've never heard conker, either! At first I thought it was a shell! :)

This is an interesting idea... I never would have thought of it!
