It's Candlemas - the candle festival.

The days are lengthening and the snowdrops are starting to peep out of the cold ground - the light of spring is greeted by the wintry earth. We celebrate the renewed vitality and help warm up the earth by making earth candles.

With all the snow love, the day passed so quick.. and so for tomorrow... Tomorrow, we roll and dip beeswax candles. We bake bread and make soup. We bake sunny custard tarts this year (last year honey cake) and tell stories of St Brigid and animals peeking out of their homes...and then we will light our way to bed with our new candles.
Hello Kelly!
ReplyDeleteYour snow angels look beautiful!! Oh to have snow... Your Candlemas celebration looks lovely.
We will only celebrate Candlemas at the end of our winter down here in South Africa. I can already see that the days are slowly becoming darker earlier and the air is a little cooler too.
I love snowdrops.....
Let me know how it goes with the pineapple plant, is there any new leaf growth, I have also really wanted to plant a pineapple top. On Down-To-Earth, a blog I have on my blog list she has been successful in getting hers to grow.
Gee, this is a long comment, I should have rather sent you an email, LOL
Keep well and enjoy your journey towards the light and warmth of Spring...
Many blessings....
Linda
Hi Linda
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the lovely long message. Candlemas is wonderful. We made so many lovely beeswax candles yesterday. So looking forward to spring - all the beautiful flowers and slow return of warmth. I must start planning what we will grow this year.
Will let you know how we get on with that pineapple!
Best wishes
Kelly
The candles are beautiful, how nice to create the candles outdoor and have such lovely shapes to burn inside your home. :)
