Some highlights of nature adventures in cold bleak January.
January was grey, wet, blustery and icy cold. No snow here this month. beautiful lichen and moss to study. Birdlife to study. And beautiful bare trees. Winter aconite flowering in the woods and snowdrops up. Daffodials and crocus shoots emerging. Woodlands to play in and trees to climb. It is exhilarating to dress up warm and adventure.
January was a good month to:

To study icy lakes and throw sticks and stones over the icy surface to see who could throw the furthest.

To do some birdwatching.

To trudge in the mud. No shortage of mud here! Fields of it.

To play rugby with the dog.

To conquer haybale forts.

To fly plastic bag kites.

To survey the vastness around us and be free.

To collect sticks!
