Shield bug
Paired shield bugs of a different variety. These are beautiful - gold with a bronze triangle on their backs.
A bombardier beetle.
Leo and Noah gravitated towards this great big puddle instead. Such fun those two mud dwellers had!
Leo played at being a giant travelling to Mars via the puddle.
Noah did a whole lot of running and splashing and jumping and throwing stones in the puddle. I did a bit of both - searching for bugs and squelching about in the puddle.
The last photo is the cutest! I love kids that love the mud, insects and puddles.

I have many a picture where if it was not for size I would not know who was who...Please tell the bug hunter that we will be posting a large locust soon. Our bug hunter is back on track.

ReplyDeleteTammy, those caterpillars are really interesting. We checked on them again today. Still tons in the nest that are emerging. Wish I knew what insect they are.
Jennifer, when they're done they are covered from head to toe in mud and water but it is well worth the fun they have. So many simple things to enjoy.
Suzanne, I reckon our children would love to get together and have a good old play in the mud and then the bug hunters could have a good hunt too! I'll tell Sol about the giant locust - wow! You know, last week for teh first time ever here, Sol found a tiny little millipede. We can them chongololos in Zim - you know the giant ones! This little guy was so tiny!

My boys love worms, lizards and especially frogs. We have beautiful worms on our frangipani that they spend hours with building forts, tunnels for them, and of course I can never keep them out of the mud - especially now during our tropical rainy season in Dominican Republic. Nice to see other children living the same life.
