Ojos de Dios

Making Ojos de Dios (or Eye's of God) is something we all love and we have these hanging throughout our home in  different forms.  They are really fun to make and are actually quite addictive!  They are an Easter symbol - symbolising the watchful love of God - so are a perfect activity to do now in the Easter season.  The children get great satisfaction making them as they are easy to make and look stunning.

Ojo de Dios originate from Mexico but are found in other parts of the world too.

You will need:

Pieces of thin, straight sticks.

Different coloured yarn

To make:

Collect two straight sticks (or any other long sticks like canes, skewers, dowelling)

Tie in the centre using yarn to create a well-bound cross.

To do the stick weaving,

starting at the top stick on your cross, wind the yarn once round from front to back

and then move on to the right cross stick - wind the yarn once round from front to back,

then move to bottom cross stick - wind the yarn once from front to back -

then to the left stick - front to back and then back to the top cross stick and so on,

creating a diamond shape.

Change the colour of your yarn when you want to.
