Over the weekend

It was a cold, wet weekend and we visited a nearby ancient woodland in the hope of spotting some Roman snails (These are big, big snails still found in England, introduced here by the Romans and still present).

My boys are loving snails right now. Well, we didn't find any roman snails to admire on this visit. Maybe next time. We spotted one fossil of a shellfish in a rockface. Again, will look again next visit for more finds. Huge stretches of magical carpets of bluebells there though. Such a joy!

We live in the Cotswolds and the countryside is truly beautiful here, especially during Spring. Lush green, rolling fields with mama sheep and babes grazing, cotswold stone walls, streams and natural springs and beautiful woodlands.

Just look at those plump, frisky lambs.

Fossil hunting along the Jurassic Coast

It was Sol's seventh birthday this week.

As he has a keen interest in fossil hunting, we made a trip to West Dorset's Jurassic Coast as a birthday celebration.  The Jurassic Coast is England's first natural World Heritage Site. Stretches of rocks here date from the Triassic, Jarassic and Cretaceous periods.  A fascinating wonder of the natural world.  There is a variety of beaches, landslides, bays and cliffs at this everchanging coastline.  Just imagine dinosaurs roaming along this stretch of shore....

Parts of the coast are world famous for fossil hunting and new dinosaurs are often uncovered. Whilst we didn't unearth the next greatest dinosaur find, each of us had a memorable time and Sol collected various rocks, ammonites, bones, belemites and other treasures.

Some of the beautiful treasures from another time here for us to marvel at.

Such beauty.
