I have discovered this fabulous woman who runs an initiative here in Zimbabwe employing local disadvantaged women to spin locally grown cotton into yarn. The yarn is fantastic and to help the women is also a great initiative to get lots of this yarn! Just look at some of the colours.
I knitted up a couple of baby vests and nappy covers for a friend's sweet little babe.
I shall be knitting lots more using this gorgeous local cotton yarn.
Yesterday, we discovered a swarm of bees in our garden.
They visited for the day and then moved on. Unfortunately, we didn't see them leave but it was fascinating watching this huge ball of living, buzzing bees.
The boys had a bike clinic and washed their bikes.
My yesterday, today and tomorrow bushes are flowering. We have big water shortages in Harare, coupled with us being heading into the hot, dry season here, water is a precious commodity! Each morning Jediah and I fill buckets with bath water and water these bushes. We have been rewarded with beautiful white, lilac and purple flowers and such a beautiful scent.

When I lived in Guatemala, we often had water shortages, especially during the dry season. So I always saved bath water to water our flowers as well! I still do even though here (in the eastern U.S.A.) we have been blessed with very abundant water this year. Most of my friends here in the U.S.A. would have no thought of doing such a thing! Your bush is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel, it's fantastic you still save your bath water. We are planning to put in a well when we can manage it and then we can grow more veg and fruit trees. You are lucky to have abundant water!
DeleteKelly--the photo of a swarm is amazing! I've never seen such a thing (off of the television).
ReplyDeleteAnd I think it is so wonderful that you babied your garden with bath water...here in the U.S people are so wasteful. I loved reading this post!
Oh -- and the knitting (as always) is so, so nice. I have been meaning to learn, but I'm oddly uncoordinated when it comes to knitting and/or crocheting. :(
Jessica, that swarm was incredible! And the knitting keeps me sane when things get a bit manic! If I was near you I would show you gladly!
ReplyDeleteAh Kelly, I am finding so many posts of yours that I somehow missed! I love the photo of the boys washing their bikes together. How amazing to find those bees it must have looked and sounded so lovely x
