Approaching Advent

Donni kindly invited me to share my family's Advent traditions on her wonderful 'Discovering Waldorf' series.  Our lives and our children's lives are deeply enriched by celebrating festivals together with the cycle of the seasons.  I'll admit to have felt a little apprehensive at the suggestion of writing about Advent, such a significant season on so many levels, celebrated in so many different ways, yet I enjoyed contemplating the significance of this special time, and hope I managed to portray some of the wonder and joy of Advent.

It was an honour for me to write this for you, Donni!

Please pop over to the beautiful The Magic Onions if you would like to read this article and many other wonderful articles in this series.

  2. Kelly,

I read your post earlier this morning, over on Donni's site. I think it is beautiful.

As I commented over at The Magic Onions, this will be our first year purposefully celebrating Advent.

I think we're going to make rock candy on Sunday--making (sugar) crystals! :)

We have a lovely miniature advent wreath on our seasonal table--another "new" tradition here in our home--and I look forward to sharing this all with Benjamin as the weeks unfold. I think I will read your post to him as well...so he can learn how others celebrate!

    Love & Hugs,
    Jessica

  3. Hello my sweet friend Kelly, it was an amazing post. I loved reading every part of it. I enjoyed every moment of your woodland adventure and how I can resonate with your lifestyle and your magical advent spirit. How similar I feel our lifestyles are. I have already made up my mind that when you move back to Zimb that would be the perfect time for us to come over and visit. Our boys can celebrate together. Much love to you and the boys.xxx

  6. That is such a wonderful post Kelly!
I love that you consider the woods your second home. Your children are having a precious upbringing and it will surely spread to their families when they grow up!

  7. I just started reading your log..and have been flowing random links based on the 'suggestions' at the end of the posts. It is so fascinating to see the simple live you're trying to live - so in tune with nature. And more importantly teaching it to your children too. It is truly beautiful this way of living.

Just one 'error' that i'd like to point out. ONe of your posts mentions a Kenyan Assam Tea. Kenya is a country in Africa while Assam is a state in India, Asia. So, there really cannot be a Kenyan Assam tea :)
