We did this last year and it was magical! This year, it has taken me a while to get around to doing this but we've got there. We stuck candles in walnut shells, took turns lighting the candle in our walnut boat and set it sail on our lake. We gave thanks for each other, for the year past, recalled memories and then made wishes for the new year. May it be a year of joy, wonder and dreams coming true for all.
I read about a similar activity in one of the Children's Year/Around the Year books and couldn't imagine the point of so much effort - but it looks so pretty and sparkly and nice that I might actually be motivated to try - we do have a bag full of carefully halved walnut shells after all!
This is a lovely way to reflect, share and find inspiration for a new year. Thank you for sharing with me about your baobab tree. I loved what you had to say. Trees really are a treasure. Lovely to meet you.
What a beautiful family tradition. I've been trying to think of ways to celebrate the New Year with littlies, something like this might work wonderfully :-)

ReplyDeleteI hadn't a clue how we were going to celebrate the New Year, but I love the idea of using candles to make a wish. The walnut boats are marvelous!
