Little Noah, enjoyed a bit of this and that, but mostly liked building cobble towers or playing in the sand. When he was tired out, he liked nothing more than his happy milk and a peaceful sleep on the beach with mama closely keeping a watch by his side.

Sandhoppers. These cheerful little chaps found themselves included in many sandhopper traps and sandhopper racetracks. None of them were hurt during the games.

Eggs of some sort! Interesting though.

Wobbly fish as Noah calls jellyfish.

Kelp

Shy little hermit crabs.

Lug worms! These worms are rarely seen except by fishermen digging for bait. My father would absolutely love to get his hands on some of these to fish with!! The worm lives in a burrow with a cast at one end and a blowhole at the other - so blowhole and cast appear in pairs.

Boy, did we all have fun with these. We dug between the paired blowhole and cast and searched for the worm. We had competitions on who could find the biggest. Leo found the biggest and Sol found the most.

Wow, the jellyfish is a work of art!
ReplyDeleteI love that you had little games with these creatures as part of your day!!
What exactly *are* mermaids purses? I know what you are talking about but I wonder what they are whenever I see them at the beach...
Hi Kelly
ReplyDeleteI have Aaron at my side and he would like to let Sol and Leo know what great seashore treasure finders they are. Sol would love mud prawn catching. We did this on our Knysna holiday. You take an old tin, find a air hole and plunge the tin onto the hole. The pressure this causes makes a mud prawn pop out of another hole. The fisherman use these to fish with.
We have loved looking at your holiday posts.
All our love Aaron and Suzanne
Hi gardenmama
ReplyDeleteMermaids purses are ray and skate egg cases. Jellyfish (wobbly fish) are beautiful!
Hi Suzanne
Sol has just insisted we add the sand dune finds. He says he likes the idea of mud prawn catching and would like to try. He wants Aaron to know he also caught a pipe fish, that Leo likes to pick up crabs and Noah likes sea anemones best. Oh yes, he is eager to say he saw two big lizards - green with yellow spots - in the grass!
