Right, now don't laugh! Here we have a shot of all my fleeces - portland, dorset, herdwick, north ronaldsay, jacob, soay and cotswold. I think I have about eight fleeces hoarded away in various places around our home. If you open a cupboard you are in danger of a bag of fleece falling upon you. From last year, I collected 15 various fleeces so I have got through around half. Now, this is the only thing I hoard - I just love, love, love sheep's wool - the smell, the feel. Anyway, I have set myself a challenge to use all this up before shearing season starts so I can make room for new fleeces. This year I plan to source other fleeces to try out, in particular blue faced leicester - gorgeously soft and heavenly for spinning - cream, oatmeal and brown - how exciting for me!!!How I love to gaze at sheep longingly for their gorgeous woolly coats which, at present, are looking wonderfully thick and woolly!

So I shall be spinning and spinning and spinning and felting and maybe more weaving...
I would love to be able to spin such lovely fleece!
ReplyDeleteOh Kelly, I love this photo, I too am a fleece hoarder! I love fleece and wool, I actually have so much I'm sure I will not use it all. I really need to learn to spin soon, I will be visiting a good friend in April and she has promised to teach me, so I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteThe fleeces you spoke of sound wonderful, at the moment I only have Alpaca, Merino and Karacul....
I can't wait to see what you create from this wonderful fleece.
Have a great Sunday Kelly.
Blessings...
Oh my goodness...roflol!!!! I LOVE IT! You are so cute! ;)
ReplyDeletep.s. This post made my day!!!
Hi Kelly
ReplyDeleteI am giggling.... I do believe in searching for like minded friends. My stash of hording goods have been banished to the loft by Andrew. I am sure some life time away I had to stock up for very long winters. Its funny is'nt it. I wish you all the best with what you are going to create. Found a chicken sitting on some of my fleece the other day. Olivia is such a mother hen..

I can't wait to see what gorgeous things your hoarded fleece turns into... Please, post them as go along. Get working NOW girl, so that I can see... I hate waiting!
ReplyDeleteYou all make me so happy! I am giggling at all your comments. Yesterday afternoon I had a wonderful day spinning. Left the children to play with their dad and took some time to myself to spin away happily.
ReplyDeleteLisa, the portland is just heaven to spin - it flows into the spinning wheel like liquid gold.
Linda, once you get going spinning, you are likely to find such joy. The wheel spinning around, the whirring sound it makes and the fleece working through your fingers. Lovely! Your stash sounds great too. I haven't had any alpaca before although I love the creatures. There is a gorgeous little barn and field behind our house just right to home a cheerful sheep or two or alpacas. The farmer is not likely to rent it out though sadly.
Tammy, you frequently make my day!
Suzanne, that is funny about hoarding away for long winters and your beautiful little hen!!
Magic Onions, thanks for the push for me to get on with it. Sometimes, it takes me forever dreaming about what I shall make and it takes me ages to actually get on with it! Typical dreamy Pisces. Will post up soem fibre crafts at some point.
